If you follow me on social media (and if you don’t, why not???) you have probably heard me talk about being a BibRave Pro. What exactly does this mean? Great question!
First let’s talk about what and who BibRave actually is. BibRave is a website you use to review race sites. Think of it like Yelp but for the running world.
Beyond just being a race review website, they also connect the global running community. Every week the BibRave Twitter account hosts a chat called #BibChat. This is an hour long chat held every Tuesday starting at 9:00 PM Eastern. They ask 6 questions (1 every 10 minutes) and users respond with their answer using the Twitter hashtag “#BibChat”. It’s a great way to connect with other runners outside of your immediate running community about similar running related topics.
Each week the #BibChat is usually sponsored by some sort of racing brand. In the past they have been sponsored by Zensah, Addaday, Buff USA, MeStrength, and much much more! The best part is at the end of #BibChat they usually giveaway a prize. In the past random twitter users have won compression gear, t-shirts, foam rollers and even free race entries! The only guideline to winning is you must be following BibRave and the sponsoring brand on twitter. That simple!
So now that you got your crash course on the awesomeness that is BibRave let’s talk about what it means to be a BibRave Pro. A Pro is someone who is an official ambassador for BibRave. Being a Pro means you have a passion for running and blogging about your adventures, it’s really that simple. You don’t need a huge following or to be a special runner. When I was selected as a Pro I had less than 500 Twitter followers, that was it. But I enjoyed the BibRave community and wanted to be a bigger part of it.
Let’s talk about the number one perk you will hear about being a Pro. You get access to so much great FREE running gear! Yes I said FREE! As a pro you get products from the organizations they partner with. In the past Pro’s have been given wireless headphones, compression gear, free race entries, running shoes and so much more running gear! In return all they ask of you is to talk about your experience with the gear on social media and write a blog or 2 about your experience with the product.
Don’t believe me? Check out all the gear I have collected since becoming a BibRave Pro:
But you shouldn’t join because of all the free stuff (even though it doesn’t hurt). You should join because this is an awesome community of connected runners. Because of this group I am connected with runners in Oregon, Chicago, Wisconsin, Iowa, California and even Australia! And so many more states and countries. All because of BibRave. It has gotten me out of just knowing my running community in Philadelphia and has connected me with runners all over the world.
Last year I ran my first full marathon. It turned out other Pro’s ran this race as well. After the race I was able to meet them face to face. Here I was, a Philadelphian making his first trip to Chicago for a race distance he never ran. I felt right at home in the city because of this amazing program.
If you love running and being social about it, think about joining. It’s an awesome organization . You can apply here.
